West Australians are heading to the polls early in greater numbers than ever before — more than 500,000 have already voted and that could rise to 1.2m before Saturday, ABC’s Bridget Fitzgerald reported.

More than half a million people have already voted in the WA state election. Just over 1.7 million enrolled. The WA Electoral Commission estimates 1.2 million people could end up early voting.

In the last state election in 2017, just 200,000 voted in-person early or by post.

Western Australia has reported two new cases of Covid-19, both in hotel quarantine.

The new cases are a man and a woman in their 40s.
