GE JVW5301

GE JVW5301

A popular, solid choice

A classic hood with clean pyramid-style design, and solid features including powerful suction, a three-speed fan, and multiple lighting settings.

Buying Options

$447* from Home Depot

The GE JVW5301 has a clean, logo-free, pyramid-shaped design that doesn’t attract attention to itself, which is what a lot of people seem to want from a hood. It’s also a popular model, one of the few hoods with more than a handful of owner ratings, and reviewers seem pretty happy with it. Like most hoods, it has enough power (350 CFM, or cubic feet of air per minute) to clear the smoke and odor that your stove kicks up for most kinds of home cooking, but not so much power that it’ll waste your heat or air conditioning.

Bolder style, slicker features

A Pinterest-friendly concave-glass design, with more automated features and a stronger fan than our main pick. It costs more, though, and the look might be too much for some kitchens.

The Broan Elite EW5630SS has a bolder, more Pinterest-y look than the GE, with a concave glass hood. The fan can also turn itself on automatically when it senses heat, which is a nice feature. It also has a stronger blower (500 CFM), which might be useful if you do a lot of smoky high-heat cooking, though it’s pretty loud at that setting.
