L.L.Bean Sonic Snow Tube

L.L.Bean Sonic Snow Tube

The best sled

The L.L.Bean Sonic Snow Tube was unanimously chosen as the best sled by our 12 testers. It travels farther and faster than any other sled, and the pull strap makes it easy to haul back to the top of the hill.

The L.L.Bean Sonic Snow Tube has a hard-shell bottom that minimizes drag, protects knees and bottoms from the hard ridges of an icy slope, and makes this sled sail faster and farther than any other one we tried. Over three weeks of testing, the snow tube was successful on every kind of snow we put it on, from wet and soft to frigid and crunchy. And thanks to the tow handle, even the littlest kids had no problem hauling the Sonic Snow Tube back up the hill. The Sonic Snow Tube is available in two sizes. We recommend the extra-large for two kids or an adult over about 6 feet tall.

Best Choice Products 48in Kids Toboggan

Best Choice Products 48in Kids Toboggan

A less expensive multi-rider

The Best Choice Products’ 48in Kids Toboggan easily holds one, two, or (maybe) three kids and is made of thick, durable plastic.

Buying Options

$33* from Amazon
$33 from Walmart

For a more traditional (and less expensive) sled we like the Best Choice Products 48in Kids Toboggan. It’s a regular plastic toboggan, so it isn’t as fast or comfortable as the Sonic Snow Tube, but you can easily put two people on it, or three if they’re all kids and don’t mind cramming in. It stood out from the other plastic toboggans we tested because of its heavy-duty plastic and because it’s easy to grip anywhere along the sides. Other sleds have designated handholds that can be limiting.

The L.L.Bean Kids’ Pull Sled is a high-quality, easy-gliding sled that should have no problem lasting through multiple kids (or even generations).

To give your baby or toddler a more luxurious wood-crafted ride, we like the L.L.Bean Kids’ Pull Sled and Cushion Set. It’s expensive, but I’ve used ours through three kids (about seven years) and it’s still in great shape. Metal bars under the wood runners add durability, and the side rails protect a little tot from tipping out—without you having to deal with a fussy belt buckle.
