Yeelight Smart LED Color Bulb
The best smart light bulb
It’s brighter (and cheaper) than most smart bulbs, has several special features, and works with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant.
May be out of stock
The Yeelight Smart LED Color Bulb has many of the features you’d expect in a smart bulb and a few extras, including Color Picker, which lets you use your smartphone’s camera as a scanner so your bulb can match colors. The Yeelight produced brighter light than most bulbs we measured, so it’s perfect for everyday use. It also connects to your home’s Wi-Fi (it doesn’t need a hub, unlike many other bulbs) and is affordable, so putting one in your living room and one in your bedroom won’t break the bank. And finally, it works with a lot of other smart home products out there via support for Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings. If you don’t need more color in your life, consider the Yeelight Smart LED Tunable White Bulb.
Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance A19 Starter Kit
The best smart lighting ecosystem
Hue’s bulbs can be paired with a wide selection of other Hue lighting devices, all of which communicate wirelessly with one another to prevent range issues. Hue supports the most smart-home platforms, including voice-controlled ones like Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant.
Philips Hue A19 smart light bulbs create vibrant, colorful Scenes and can be controlled using Bluetooth and your smartphone. However, the real magic happens when you add in a Hue hub (or a device like the Amazon Echo Plus, which has a built-in Zigbee wireless hub). That allows you to set Schedules, as well as integrate with motion sensors and wireless switches from the Hue family of accessories. It also adds in support for Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings, among others. And because that Zigbee connection works separately from your home’s Wi-Fi (it creates its own mesh network between devices), it’s more reliable than most systems. The downside is that Hue bulbs are more expensive than our other picks; we recommend the White and Color Ambiance A19 Starter Kit, which includes four bulbs and a Hue hub.
Smart lights for less
An inexpensive smart bulb that’s good for people who want easily controllable lights but don’t need a wide color palette or HomeKit support.

Wyze’s low-cost bulb is great for anyone who wants to dabble in smart lighting but doesn’t want to pay double digits for a single light bulb. The Wyze Bulb is among the cheapest smart bulbs we’ve tested, but it’s also easy to set up and control and can be dimmed or tuned to different white temperatures (it doesn’t do color). This bulb can be tied into other Wyze devices too, as well as products compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT (If This Then That).
